Transplanted from Napa to PIemonte Italy... I blog for a passion about food, wine, and Italian culture. For now just discovering Piemonte one step (sip) at a time with big dreams to do wine tours in Italy. Hopefully I can help with any travel/wine ?'s!

Cascina I Carpini

a bit far out there but well worth the visit. Owner Paolo Carlo Ghislandi is a fantastic host and enamors you with his poetic descriptions and holistic philosophies. You'll be drinking and laughing your whole way through this winery visit!

Marcarini Dolcetto d'Alba Boschi di Berri (2011)
Comments:
Stunning brilliant ruby red color, almost fuchsia. Sensational aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries and dried roses. On the palate, those flavors came through wonderfully along with red cherries and cranberries. It was a light/medium bodied wine which had a nice structure and because of its astringency I think it would be great in a few years from now.
I have never tasted a Dolcetto as unique as this one and felt lucky to have had the chance to find Boschi Dei Berri. This Dolcetto comes from 100 year old pre-phylloxera grape vines and is thought to be reminiscent of the way Dolcetto used to be! Loved this wine for it's peculiarity!

Cascina Melognis Novamen Vino Rosso
Comments:
75% Barbera and 25% Pinot Noir. Winemaker Michele Antonio Fino chose to plant Bourgogne Pinot Noir Clones because he thought the climate and terrain would suit these grapes the best. The town of Revello (in Piemonte but outside Langhe/Roero) has a gravelly soil, is literally at the foot of Monviso, part of the Alps. The climate is 30% rainier and the vines are planted on 30 degree slope!
I found this blend to be extremely interesting! Intense ruby red with warm and red fruit notes. Warm and and powerful on the palate but nicely balanced with proper acidity. An intriguing mix! (7 euros)
