Review from original list creator: "Bright and muscular on the nose, and filled with sumptuous aromas of dark fruit framed by lightly smoky French oak and soil tones. Dense and a little chewy in the mouth, with super fine tannins supporting the herb-edged blackberry fruit. Possessing a very precise, firm, texture and great depth, this explodes on the huge finish packed with exceptionally pure wild berry fruit. 94 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

2 Dashe Cellars Zinfandel Florence Vineyard Dry Creek Valley (2010)
Review from original list creator: "Opening with a huge nose of crushed blackberry, green balsam spice notes, and gorgeous floral accents, this smells terrific. Complex earthy fruit greets the palate with a rich, firm texture to the evolving chocolatey, tart cherry flavors that get added lift from the herbal freshness here. There's almost a little chinato character here, complex, earthy and herbal along with layers of thyme, crushed flowers and red currant and raspberry fruit on the palate. One of the most vibrant and energetic Zins I've tasted recently. This just has stunning purity of fruit with some power behind it, compelling complexity and superb cut on the palate. Just terrific Zinfandel. I’m always disappointed when I remember that this comes from relatively young vines. It’s a magical vineyard. 95pts" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Super powerful and intense on the nose, with dusty, oily, briary, super-focused essence of Zin berry fruit aromas. This shows great intensity without weight on the palate in a high acid, transparent style that reveals deep, old vineyard character and palate-staining intensity of spicy blackberry and red cherry fruit that shows wonderful persistence. 93 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

4 Carlisle Zinfandel du Pratt Vineyard Mendocino County (2011)
Review from original list creator: "Tight with an early note of exotic grapefruit/passion fruit, accenting the red and blue fruit of the nose. This is medium light bodied and finely balanced, with a lovely texture that is almost supple but still shows good tension in the mouth. Red currant and subtle frutti del bosco flavors shine on the palate, with a nice streak of vanilla with a late-arriving wild blackberry note. The finish shows a bit of obvious oak, but that should integrate with time. This is rather refined, with lovely purity to the fruit, and such an intriguing, almost delicate texture. 93 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Very pretty on the nose, with lovely subtle earthy complexity and an oily nuttiness, along with classic briary fruit. This shows nicely balanced structure that yields a balanced yet firm texture supporting very aromatic savory, briary, almost earthy fruit on the palate that turns slightly floral on the back end. The tannins here are quite refined, and along with the lovely acidity, this comes off as juicy, with tart fruit and excellent length. 93 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Only vintage made Rather rich in the nose and filled with aromas of blackberry pie, India ink, african violets, and white pepper. This is very fleshy on entry, rich, smooth, and powerful though with super balance. It’s filled with blue fruit and bitter cherry notes with a dense and chewy mouthfeel that reminds me of brownies, heck there’s even some brownie flavors here! Palate staining and extracted this will beat your ass with it’s long, deep briary fruit and massive finish. Age it forever. 93pts" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Bright and focused in the mouth, there’s a nice faceted feel here though not much complexity beyond an attractive blend of tart blueberry pie filling, vanilla and a hint of latex. Intense, round, and opulent on the palate, this displays lovely fine-grained ripe tannins that add a bit of volume in the mouth There’s an early touch of inky fruit, followed by a rich core of slightly medicinal, minty black cherry fruit that exhibits lovely purity and finesse. 9 Saxon-Brown Zinfandel Sonoma Valley Fighting Brothers Cuvée (2009)
Review from original list creator: "This shows off a big chocolate-laced nose, restrained and polished wood treatment, and spicy black cherry, Griottes jammy note. With bright acid on entry, followed by lovely soft and slightly dusty tannins, this shows good support for the spiced (but not spicy) big red berry fruit that turns a bit inky on the backend. There’s some bitter red fruit on the finish along with a big black raspberry jam note that’s just a little jammy, all leading to a leather and melted licorice finale. A big wine, but with excellent structure. 92 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Very spicy on the nose, with fine red currant and almost rhubarb fruit that’s topped with a strong Swedish Fish candy aroma. Entering the mouth smooth, polished and powerful, this is decidedly structured, with big tannins and acids embedded in the rich, chewy fruit. Licorice and candied Swedish Fish accent the plummy, earthy and perfumed bramble fruit in the mouth. This finishes with some dry tannin, and plenty of blue and black fruit with modest spice notes, in a structured style that demands a bit more time in the bottle. Review from original list creator: "Fruity on the nose with a nice bramble top note, followed by spiced cherry, mineral and almost black currant fruit with a hint of raw beef to it. In the mouth this is very smooth and polished, a smooth, sexy wine that wraps around the palate. Some small tannins add a lovely touch of mouth grab and the acidity does a nice job supporting the blackberry fruit that gains a lively streak of wild strawberry fruit along with an edge of chewiness on the back end, and lingers on the palate with ripe dried strawberries and a very gentle touch of supporting wood. 92 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Deep, savory and mineral on the nose with slow to emerge notes of ink and carob. This smells old bony and dusty and firm, with a flourish of licorice and old books aromas. Lively and clear on the palate with boysenberry and citrus clementine, a little chocolate covered clementine flavors layered over a core of cedary, burnished cherry fruit. this grows in intensity in the mouth, sort of like a bouncing ball in reverse, gaining height and impact. Gaining chewy depth and power, and turning savory on the long finish, which shows excellent complexity with nuanced blue fruit and inky flavors on the long finish. Another wine with great cut but on sense the alcohol here as it adds a little sweetness to the palate. 93pts" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "A bit oaky but at the same time quite complex on the nose, with a marine quality here adding freshness to the blueberry and raspberry fruit, all topped with deep and complex oily nuttiness. On entry this is cool and compressed, showing fine structure, taut with lovely grape skin and wild plum fruit full of spicy inner mouth perfumes, and streaked with nice dark coffee and mineral accents on the long, slightly tough peppery finish. A powerful wine that's a little tough today but should blossom with just a bit more time in the cellar. 92 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Bright, firm and intense in the mouth, this is a bit meaty, certainly muscular, mouth-filling, and complex. The finish is huge and long, just a rush of dark berry fruit and perfumed spicy accents. While a fairly big wine, this is not terribly dense, with a lovely finish that shows a hint of a sweet edge and oaky spice on the finale. 88 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: " Mineral, dark and inky on the nose with blue fruit that’s a little funky with carob top notes. This is way plummy on entry, with ashy spice notes in a very smooth, powerful way with fine density. It’s a wine that expresses spicy Zin berry fruit well, but it is soft, and a little creamy, even with lots of ripe tannins lending a peppery edge to the core of fruit here. The finish shows both sweetness and heat along with spice notes, a bit much for me. 88 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

58 Brutocao Zinfandel Estate Hopland Ranches Mendocino (2009)
Review from original list creator: " A fairly ripe wine, but on both the nose and the palate this shows red fruits, strawberry and raspberry. There’s a lovely Zin richness on the palate without any excess weight, making this easy to enjoy and wide open on the palate in a juicy, smooth style that shows a nice bright edge. A little French oak spice pops on the modest finish. 88 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: " Matte on the nose with hints of oily seed over spiced plum fruit. Plump in the mouth, with lovely, fresh if abundant tannins that lend this a firmness in the mouth. The macerated black cherry fruit is framed with hints of earth and just a faint edge of herbs. There’s plenty of juicy black fruit on the moderately long finish. Nicely done, if a touch simple. 88 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Dark, oily and extracted on the nose with floral top notes and oily seed aromas,. The nose does offer up some fine fresh perfumes of wild fruit. On the palate there’s an early rush of blackberry fruit in a lighter style, decidedly medium body with lovely bright fruit, zesty berry flavors and fine tannins that lead to a moderately long finish. 88 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Fair amount of wood here, making this spicy on the nose and rich with vanilla, chocolate and coffee bean aromas. Smooth and polished if dense in the mouth, with nice power behind the slightly leather dark raspberry, blackberry fruit that's framed with oak and earth notes. This finishes with lots of power and richness, but it’s also quite tannic and dry at the same time. A bit heavy-handed. 88 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

63 Hendry Zinfandel Napa Valley Mike & Molly R.W. Moore Vineyard (2011)
Review from original list creator: "Black fruit and earthy spice greet the nose topped with an almost Middle Eastern fenugreek and green anise seed note. With a nice grapey base note, this is smooth and supple in the mouth, showing good acidity and ripe tannins. This is fairly restrained, if large-scaled, with nice pure fruit that lacks a touch of intensity. The finish is a bit short and a bit simple, but overall this shows a lovely texture. 87 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Slight wood and clay soil tones greet the nose along with a nice crushed black fruit aroma and some nuanced French oak notes. This starts off nice and tight on the palate, turning a bit soft, with an easy-drinking texture but still focused, with black plum and blackcurrant fruit. This continues to open up, turning fruitier on the back end with a hint of bramble fruit. Very easy to enjoy. 87 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Ripe on the nose with plenty of vanilla and jammy red fruit, as well as a deep note of used oak. Review from original list creator: "Very pretty nose that shows very fine fruit aromas in the spicy, briary end of the spectrum. There’s a lovely layered freshness on the palate, juicy and a bit tropical with a hint of grapefruit over lots of plum and wild raspberry fruit. Review from original list creator: "A little reduced on the nose, which shows soft aromas of blackberry, ash and dry wood. In the mouth there's a nice core of cherry fruit cut with a nice mineral note early on, then a balsamic note and nutty nuances on the back end. This is a touch four-square, but it does show nice spiced fruit on the slightly chunky finish. 87 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Very pretty, and very Dry Creek Valley, with lovely, nice briary fruit that’s full of crushed raspberry and wild cherry nuances. A little plump and easy going, but varietally spot-on with fairly deep Zin berry fruit, good acidity that accents tart cherry flavors on the back end, and a little tannic bite on the modest finish. Review from original list creator: "With a nose that’s a bit smoky and oily, this remains attractive with deep, dark berry fruit. Firm in the mouth, if a bit hollow across the mid-palate, this lacks some detail but does offer up a nice, elegant and firm core of black cherry and blackberry fruit that finishes with a bit of dry tannin. A bit old school. 87 points" by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: " A bit oily, with notes of redwood, dark Brambly fruit and dark, roasted coffee-toned fruit on the nose. Soft and broad and slightly sweet on entry. This is a touch disjointed, with a noticeable streak of wood tannins obvious on the palate lending a dry, firm texture but leading to a bit of hollowness on the mid-palate. There’s plenty of red plummy fruit here, but this is a touch rustic, finishes with more wood tannin and spicy raspberry fruit. 86 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz

Review from original list creator: "Dusty, tight and mineraly on the nose with restrained crushed berry fruit topped with lovely green floral notes and a slightly medicinal edge. This is a big, medicinal and coffee-toned wine with a smooth, dark and powerful palate impression that shows obvious sweetness. There’s lots of plum and blackberry fruit, turning to blueberry pie filling on the sweet finish. There’s a lot of RS here, with a short finish where tannins knock out the sweetness but don’t allow the fruit to pop. This is a bit viscous and not my style at all. 84 points " by 89065Gregory Dal Piaz
