GDP's California Zinfandels

22. Ravenswood Dickerson Zinfandel (2009)

Chocolate, red cherries in alcohol and a nice lightly toasted oak top note greet the nose, all bathed in a subtle mint-framing note. This shows only medium-plus body on the palate, with a nice bit of tannin making this rather firm and supporting its core of black earth, spice and black plum skin. This is spicy and quite well balanced, popping on the back end with more tart red fruit. A firm and focused and rather severe example of Zin. 91 points

They only produce 4 varietal of Reds, Merlot, Syrah, Cab, and Zin, and they don't sell anything less that 9 years old. Currently working on their 2003 vintage. They are located at 5185 Union Road, across the street from Pear Valley. The owner is from Italy, and makes his own pasta and sauce, sausage, and salami, which he serves in his restaurant, which is on site. His fresh pizza's are to die for. If you haven't been there you need to try it, his wines are soooo smooth.
