While working as a Biotech equities analyst, a divine Burgundy stopped me in my tracks and made me re-evaluate life. Today, I'm a full time wine writer. Passionate about small, quality producers, minimal intervention winemaking & sustainability in wine.

Five fantastic organic white wines

There are so many fantastic organic wines out there - don't get stuck thinking "organic" means cheap, simple wines called "Green Planet" or the like. Some of the best wines in the world are organic or biodynamic though not all are certified. After posting a few red favorites and a list of great organic champagne, here comes my list for five lovely whites I've tasted in the past few weeks. Happy sipping!

(PS that's me and my sister on the cover pic. She's crazy and drinks anything but so much fun. We are hoping to do a wine travel series one of these days, to follow in our father's TV-host footsteps. Any contacts you have and wish to share, send me a message!)

4 Fattoria San Lorenzo Vigna di Gino Verdicchio Dei Castelli di Jesi Biodynamic (2010)
Comments: Tried the wines from Natalino Crognaletti at the Real Wine Fair in London and was quite excited about the range. This wine was really interesting with a fresh citrus base and a special mushroomy note on the nose. Well balanced. If you see their 1998 Marche Bianco, grab it without hesitation. It has aged excellently and developed an interesting complexity while retaining freshness. An excellent "natural" producer!

5 Fernand Engel Pinot Blanc Reserve Alsace France (2010)
Comments: A small Alsatian family producer working biodynamically. Bit of roundness, touch of sweetness, light green freshness and a decent amount of peachy fruit. Try this with a local Alsatian onion tart and cold cuts.
