I will begin this review by disclosing that this is actually my first review, and I am a beginner in the grand scheme of things - so judge accordingly. Also, I TASTED THE 2009 - 2011 came up by default, I'll try to fix this.
HOWEVER, I had this wine last night and REALLY loved it. I woke up thinking about it today, in fact! I've been drinking a LOT of wine lately and I've never had anything like this.
Lovely golden straw color. A fairly subtle clean nose with some tropical or stone fruit and slight flowery perfume. Rich and medium to full bodied on the palate. A great (and long) interplay between slightly sweet herbacousness (sweet green grass, tea maybe?) + fruit (pineapple and peach or aprcot).....AND the backing of soft acidity that never dominates but provides great contrast and structure to this wine. It's not the kind of acidity I've seen in many crisper clean whites - more soft meyer lemon instead of puckery - but maybe this is because the acidity is so well integrated with the other aspects of the wine. The finish is awesomely long (for me, anyway) and super interesting because it even finishes with a last note of flowery perfume.
And as a final note, I experimented with pairing this with dinner - crab cake and asparagus with lemon. It paired very well - even with the asparagus (although this was tamed a little with butter and lemon). I think it's a really versatile wine when it comes to pairing, however.
I'm going to try another falanghina as soon as I can find one. I hope this review is helpful.
