Transplanted from Napa to PIemonte Italy... I blog for a passion about food, wine, and Italian culture. For now just discovering Piemonte one step (sip) at a time with big dreams to do wine tours in Italy. Hopefully I can help with any travel/wine ?'s!

Chionetti Dolcetto di Dogliani San Luigi (2009)
Comments:
Ok.. this 4 1/2 glass cannot be compared to a barolo but for a dolcetto it is so good! Velvety, chocolatey, silky and smooth. Intense perfumes and full bodied feel in mouth. Incredible deal and incredible dolcetto!

Scavino Paolo Barolo Monvigliero (2007)
Comments:
For being a 2008 Barolo I was blown away by this wine coming from vineyards on the "Femminine" side of Langhe Valley at the very tip being Verduno.
Outstanding aromas of berries, eucalyptus, and mint...a fantastic wine!

Barolo Cannubi Scavino (2008)
Comments:
Cannubi is the cru in Barolo. This is still considered to be the Feminine side of the valley. I was mostly overwhelmed by its tones of dark chocolate and silky feel on the palate.Exudes sensuality!

Paolo Scavino Barolo Riserva Rocche Dell'Annunziata (2006)
Comments:
Forest floor on the nose but lots of blackberry, cocoa and purple flowers. Fresh yet full on the palate. I think this vintage is already unbelievably great!

Rizzi Barbaresco Boito (2006)
Comments:
After tasting about 15 different wines, I ended with this. At this point it was hard for me to pinpoint aromas and flavors but this wine was the one that definitely WOWED me. A bit more masculine, muscular, powerful. Can be aged up to 20 years I think!
The Boito Cru is almost like a Grand Cru within the existing Rizzi Cru. It is a "Bricco" which means it is at the top of the hill. The soil is calcareous and has more clay than the rest of the larger Cru giving it more complex and deeper qualities!
