A little pencil eraser battles a little pencil wood for dominance over the core of spicy black fruit. This is slightly herbal on the nose and notably complex. Big on entry, this quickly finds focus and delivers intense dark fruit flavors on the palate. There’s more pencil action going on along with plummy notes, a nice and bright tannic spine, solid acidity and all sorts of balsamic and leathery undertones. The finish is nicely astringent and juicy with some persistent blueberry and raspberry fruit. The nose is going to turn people off here, but this is pretty nice stuff. 89pts
