St. Urbans-Hof Riesling Kabinett Ockfener Bockstein 2009

Member Reviews for St. Urbans-Hof Riesling Kabinett Ockfener Bockstein
Add your reviewI rarely buy more than one bottle of ANY wine even if it's great...I've now bought 4 bottles of this riesling...this wine distinguishes the difference between one note american riesling (which should never be rated over an 89) and true German rieslings which are symphonies of fruit...this wine is just a mouthful of fruit...a super riesling at a very reasonable price.
The WS review says it well: a real mouthful of peach, apricot, and lime, and an intriguing creamy texture on the tongue. More than off-dry, this vintage is halfway to sweet, even though it's been taken to 8% alcohol (per the label). I'm enjoying it all by itself, but it should go really well with mild-to-sharp cheeses, and spectacularly well with a nice brie.

Fresh apple and orange take the lead in Weis's 2006 Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett, which like their entire crop from Ockfen, was picked late this year. Hints of brown spices and citrus zest add interest to this delicate, bright Kabinett, and its juicy finish offers welcome ripeness, savory salinity, and hints of wet stone. This little model of Saar refreshment and impeccable balance, as usual, represents very good value.

Offers enticing peach, apricot, lime, and slate aromas and flavors, with a touch of vanilla cream. Creamy, yet bright and pure, with persistence and a complex finish. Drink now through 2025.

A stellar selection from one of our favorite German Riesling producers. Lithe and elegant, with beautiful peach, green apple and racy lemon-lime fruit notes. With excellent focus and a strong mineral and citrus background, the St Urbans-Hof is a winner for many fish and chicken dishes, as well as pasta salad or fresh veggies.

Yeasty fermentative notes on the nose of Weis's 2008 Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett reluctantly recede to reveal site-typical orange blossom and apple. This is certainly a genuinely light-weight Kabinett, with both efficacious acidity and bitter hints of fruit pit and apple pip balancing its residual sugar in an invigorating dynamic.

A vivid Riesling that crackles on the palate with fireworks of black currant, violet, lime and slate. There's also a savory aspect that lingers on the finish. Best from 2010 through 2020.

Orange blossom, lemon, smoky crushed stone, and pungent lavender are mingled with slight yeastiness in the nose of Weis's 2007 Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett, whose relatively high 9% alcohol (a legacy of sheer ripeness) does not prevent it fulfilling its duty as Kabinett to be delicate and engagingly juicy. Fresh apple and a lick of salt in the penetrating, pungently zesty finish enhance the refreshment offered by an excellent value that will no doubt give pleasure for close to a decade.

The whiff of yeastiness in the nose of Weis's 2009 Ockfener Bockstein Riesling Kabinett (from the original Neuwied vineyard) proves perfectly delightful as an accent to apple and orange blossom; pineapple and cherry, all of which persist on an ultra-refreshing, generously juicy, delicate palate whose saline and seemingly crystalline mineral notes make for uncontrollable salivation. Look for 15 or more years of delight from this quintessential Kabinett and outstanding value, whose sweetness seems impeccably balanced despite its fully 50 grams of residual sugar. Despite Weis's laudatory comments about Bockstein this vintage, he still sells its wines at the customary lower price than those of Goldtropfchen.
