Wine Enthusiast Review Rated 89 EDITORS CHOICE The dryness and minerality of this wine, combined with its clean, brisk elegance, make it a very nice partner for shellfish. The flavors are lemons, limes, and ripe, crisp white peaches. Wine Tasting Notes Fruit and pear aromas are offset on the palate by hints of oak and vanilla. Medium- to full-bodied, this Chardonnay has ripe fruit flavors, crisp acid in the mouth and a rich, lingering finish.

  When Joe and Emma Martin purchased the 100 acre Behler Ranch Vineyard in Sonoma Valley in 1971, they never could have expected the success that their vineyard would achieve. After several years of making grapes for other wineries, they decided to start their own winery in 1979, and they have been producing quality wines ever since. They called the winery St. Francis Winery, named after St. Francis of Assisi, protector of the natural world, and in honor of the Franciscan order, thought to be the first to bring European grape cultivation to America. St. Francis currently has 600 acres under vine in Sonoma County, with many partnerships with other vineyards in the area, including Rockpile Vineyard, Amman Ranch, Leras Ranch, and Pagani Ranch. Each of their wines are produced from 100% hand-picked Sonoma fruit, but that’s not enough to produce such bold, full-bodied wines. This is quite aromatic with classic notes of pineapple, toasty oak, ripe pear and sweet cream on the nose. This enters the mouth with a nice bright aspect, and while the mid-palate turns a bit creamy the vibrant acidity keeps the wine lively on the palate. It's got plenty of freshness in a style that highlight the ripe fruit character, in this case bright pineapple and citrus fruits with a hint of green apple. The oak fades into the fruit nicely on the backend and allows for a fresh finish of good length with the integrated oak just framing the slightly creamy, vanilla tinged fruit. This is not particularly complex but is surprisingly fun to drink! 89pts

Smooth and fruity, yet slightly acidic. Creamy with a distinct taste of vanilla. Very quick finish, with few lingering flavors, but very pleasant.

Fruit and pear aromas are complemented by hints of oak and vanilla. This medium-bodied to full-bodied white has ripe fruit flavors, crisp high acid in the mouth, and a rich lingering finish.

With aromas of honey, white blossoms, candied ginger and crushed rocks, this elegant, small-production Chardonnay displays layers of complexity. On the palate, it combines flavors of orange marmalade and Asian pear with creamy salted caramel and crisp apple. We never shy away from a challenge, and Mother Nature put us to the test in 2008. It was a year of extremes with frost, fluctuating temperatures and strong winds visiting us the first half of the year. Luckily, July and August brought relief, with two months of warm, dry weather. Harvest arrived early due to a heat spike in August, which pushed the fruit to full ripeness. In the end we had smaller yields, but extraordinary flavors and complexity.
