Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Oro 2003
I have fallen in love with all Ruffino's
After opening the bottle the acidity and softening tannins made the biggest impact on me. Trying it the next day I really enjoyed the complexity and richness of this serious wine. I think that it has great potential to improve with time. According to the chart, 2003 needs aging while 2001 is ready to drink. 2001 vintage is more than twice the price. NOTE: Ruffino's flagship label. 85% Sangiovese, 15% a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Colorino. XD, 13% alcohol. Reportedly a difficult vintage in Tuscany due to very dry, hot summer. Released October 2007
Deep yet smooth finish. Very balanced and flavorful.
Food Pairings for Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale Oro
- Color: Ruby red with garnet hues - Aroma: A very classic Chianti Classico bouquet with notes of violets, cherries, plums, and inviting spicy sensations, underlined by the exceptionally long ageing period in oak. It is elegant and lush, inviting yet subtle, featuring all the distinctive characters of the grapes cultivated on the rolling Tuscan hills. - Tasting profile: Full bodied, with a generous, fruity core, where the notes of cherries, and small berry fruits intertwine with sensations of Mediterranean herbs, such as rosemary and thyme, and hints of oak. The alcohol is well-integrated in the structure and the tannins are impressive, yet round and soft. The aftertaste is very long and reminiscent of violets, nutmeg, plums, and sweet tobacco.
