Winemaker's Notes:

Under the leadership of Paul Dolan, former President of Fetzer Vineyards, Parducci are committed to socially responsible and environmentally sound agriculture and winemaking methods while working to enhance the quality, recognition and perception of Mendocino County Wines. The winery, the oldest in Mendocino, was certified as organic by CCOF in and all vineyards are either certified as or in transition to organic and biodynamic status. 150 acres practice Fish Friendly Farming whereby the use of pesticides and other controls which could be damaging to fish, are kept to an absolute minimum. Bob Swain, who has been Parduccis winemaker since 1997, continues at the winery, making the shift from conventional operations to organic farming and sustainable business practices. Says Paul Dolan; We are clear about what we want - an environmentally and socially conscious winery making great wines from Mendocino. We want to have fun, reaching out to new audiences with each wine carrying a fresh look and message. Grapes: 100% Petite Sirah Vineyards: The grapes for this wine came primarily from two Mendocino vineyards - our estate vineyard in the Talmage Bench, with smaller percentages from vineyards in the Lake County and the Lodi region. The fruit was harvested in mid-September with an excellent balance of sugars and acidity. Vinification: The wine was matured in 58% American oak and 42% French oak. Alcohol 13.5% Taste: Parducci is among Californias pioneer producers of Petit Sirah, a speciality of Mendocino County. Our wine displays a very dark ruby colour and enticing aromas of ripe cherries, wild blackberry, mint and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wines ripe, mouth-filling flavours are rich with dark fruit, chocolate and spice tones, balanced by smooth tannins and a touch of toasty oak in the long, savoury finish. Serve: Enjoy this full-flavoured red with hearty dishes like grilled, marinated tritip, barbecued ribs, mushroom risotto and venison stew. Delicious now, it should age gracefully in the bottle for several years.
