Man give me a great big rare burger with a thick slice or bermuda onion on it and this will sing!. Lots of plum, sugared raspberry, muddy earth, wood spice, and india ink on the nose with a full, polished feel. Really well integrated structural elements support rich, dark yet fresh fruit in the mouth with a bit of grabbing tannin popping on the moderately long finish. Neither a brute nor rustic, just pure, balanced petite. A lovely wine in its own way. 89pts
Spicy, hot and bold nose with raisin and blackberry aromas. Palate is dry, quite hot with smooth melty fruit and a warming finish. Well balanced tannins and a hint of medicine make this a pretty tasty wine.
There's some char in there and bacon, additionally. Very round flavor. I can drink a whole bottle of this stuff easily, with it's savory aromas, mild sweetness, and strong wood notes.
Imistakenly put the review for the 2006 in the 2005. big bold summertime grilling wine. dry and acidic which begs for a hunk of meat. I had it with a guacomole cheddar burger with chipotle sauce. the midpalate is the highlight. if it were like the finish this would get a 5.
Meaty, peppery nose. Hot, rich and packed with thick stewed fruits - plums, figs and other black bramble fruits. Spicy, licorice on the finish.
This wine is a bit restrained from what I usually expect to encounter in petite sirah, but in a good way. Berry flavors predominate. The body is nice and soft with a rounded mouthfeel. A lot of the flavors of this wine really remind me of South American malbec. Tannins lend a nice dryness to the wine.
Excellent. Balanced tannins, with red and black fruit. Good with food with strong taste or alot of spice (I had it while over a friend's for home-cooked Thai) or alone if like wines with a strong and full taste.
OK for cooking.
