Mauritson Wines Sauvignon Blanc Dry Creek Valley 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Production: Approximately 2,757 cases Appellation: Dry Creek Valley Composition: 100% Sauvignon Blanc Vineyards: Mauritson “Hardie Ranch” Estate Vineyard, “Grandma’s Block” Estate Vineyard, Coleman-Young Vineyard Alcohol: 13.5 % by volume Aging: 100% Stainless steel fermented and aged Our newest release of Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a testament to both the consistency and diversity of the vineyards that compose it. Characteristic of previous vintages, this wine exhibits our signature bright aromatics, supple fruit, soft mouth feel, and racy acidity. The difference is in the texture and exotic fruit component of this vintage. The 2007 Sauvignon Blanc contains nearly 30 percent of the “Musque” clone of Sauvignon Blanc from Grandma’s block. This clone is believed to be a hybrid of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat. Some believe that many of the famous Sauternes wines are derived from this particular clone. The Musque clone produces wines with amazing mouth feel and complex fruit aromas yet retains the crisp acidity of traditional Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy this wine with light appetizers, salads, and even heavier seafood entrees

With over 270 acres of estate vineyards and close relationships with longtime growers throughout Sonoma County, we are able to source and manage our favorite blocks from each vineyard throughout the growing season and select the most premium fruit during harvest. Each vineyard and appellation we source from carry particular qualities in either the terroir or the farming style that we look for when considering a Mauritson wine release. Six generations of farming has taught us a few things about choosing premium fruit! Each harvest, the best from our 230 acres throughout the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys is reserved for our Estate Wines. These wines, which include our signature Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon, showcase the fruit-forward, floral and spice-driven characteristics attributed to these appellations. Winemaking may have been the logical evolution in our family’s long history of farming in the Dry Creek Valley, however, it took an absence from the valley and attention to those inner voices that led Clay Mauritson back to these same vineyards that he spent planting, tending and picking as a teen. What he came to realize was that he already had a lifetime of understanding about the subtleties and strengths of each micro-climate within the Dry Creek, Rockpile and Alexander Valleys. This Sauvignon Blanc is a blend of grapes from three vineyard sites in the Dry Creek Valley. Aromas of dried peach and freshly cut hay waft from the glass. Ripe fruit is balanced by a bright acidity, with flavors of grapefruit and honeysuckle coming forth on the palate.
