Enjoyed every sip of each glass. At the end of the bottle I asked my self, "why did I only get one bottle?" (107 views) Tasted by SC OLY on 2/13/2012 & rated 91 points: The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Slow. It smells like Blackberry, Black currant (cassis), and Oak. Very smooth finish. (677 views) Tasted by BBinSC on 8/20/2011 & rated 89 points: 89-91: surprisingly accessible at this early stage, the wine has great notes of graphite and pepper on the nose, a silky mid-palate, and a medium-long finish. Very good, decanted for three hours and still tight. I think will develop into a 90+ wine in the next few years. Give it time. (1017 views) Tasted by dboatguy on 7/27/2011 & rated 89 points: good opened nicely after an hour or so. (889 views) Tasted by RussK on 7/23/2011 & rated 89 points: RUSSK TW NapaClass Bell pepper (861 views) Tasted by THaas on 7/22/2011 & rated 90 points: Tight; a big ball of tannins, cocoa, and cassis. There's plenty of power, but right now it needs a lot of time to open up. Note: Rating is for the wine as it shows right now. It should improve a bit as it matures, which should be 2013-2020. Martin Ray Winery started in Saratoga California in the WW2 era. Martin Ray was a viticulture student of Paul Masson. This location was established in 1881 as the Twin Fir Winery. This historic site is distinguished as the oldest winery in continuous operation in Sonoma County and one of the oldest wineries in California. Some of the old grape crush barns from the original days still exist. If you are offered a tour of the old barns, gleefully accept the invitation. The Martin Ray Winery buildings would make a great movie locale. Check out the dozen old concrete vats. Each vat holds 33,000 gallons! Martin Ray Winery production began here in 2003. 9 varietals and some bulk wine blends are made. The reserve wines are silky smooth, loaded with flavor. Prices are very reasonable for these high quality wines. Read less
