Louis Jadot Chardonnay Reserve 'Les Climats' 2004
Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. He quickly developed a reputation as a high quality producer and his aim was to build his reputation as a top quality winemaker in Burgundy. To achieve this aim he continued to purchase vineyards to add to the family's earlier purchase of Beaune Clos des Ursules and Chevalier Montrachet Les Demoiselles vineyards. His Grandson, who took over at the end of WWII continued to build Louis Jadot's Domaine holdings by acquiring Grand Cru vineyards in Corton Pougets and Corton Charlemagne. The production area for this wine is the Côte d'Or region exclusively (incl. Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune). Les Climats name is a tribute to Burgundy : the word "Climat" refers to a particular vineyard site, expressing its specific terroir. Les Climats is a premium blend of Burgundy appellation, villages and some Premiers Crus. This wine presents a slightly oaky and spicy nose with complex aromas of dry grass, fern and hazelnuts. The Climats Chardonnay exudes elegance, it is structured, pleasant, with a nice acidity and so will be perfectly suited to terrine, grilled fish, poultry or fresh goats cheese.
Fantastic, hints of lychees and apple, beautifully light and crisp, slightly smoked; served with pork and lightly spiced mashed potato (with a teaspoon of salsa de chilli morita) - I thought this a superb wine; ubercool. Around the £20 mark, it's cracking value and still on the rise...
