Domaine Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre 2009
Domaine Hippolyte Reverdy Red Sancerre is made from the Pinot Noir grape. Produced only in relatively small quantities, it is rarely found outside France. However it is a fascinating wine that when combined with a touch of oak ageing can show some complexity and develop a rich and supple mid-palate. Try it very slightly chilled.
Full disclosure: I really like Loire Valley wines. This one is pretty in the glass. Herbal, grassy nose. Light fruit on the front of the palate and noticeable grassiness as it fills the mouth. I don't particularly care for the grassiness, but it does diminish. Some nice tartness somewhat suggesting lemon, but the flavor is quite light. The short characterization of this wine is crisp and refreshing. The acid helps it with food, but it is probably best as a summer sipping wine. US$19.99 at Total Wines.
Earthy and great with caramelized onion Gruyere quiche or fish.
