Cvne Compania Vinicola Norte de Espana Rioja Vina Real Crianza 2006
C.V.N.E., or to give it its full name, Compañía Vinicola del Norte de España (The Northern Spanish Wine Company) was established on the 24th of March 1879 in Haro, Rioja. Set up by two brothers, Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa, their aim was to capitalize on the flourishing new trade in wine. C.V.N.E. is based in the traditional neighbourhood of the station, in the heart of the Rioja wine region. Historically, some of the oldest wineries of Rioja Alta established themselves here in order to benefit from the ease of transport via rail to the port of Bilbao, the most efficient form of transport in those days. Hand harvested, principally from our vineyards in Rioja Alavesa. Following a short pre-fermentation maceration, fermentation was done at a controlled temperature to retain primary varietal aromas. The young wine was transferred to 225 litre american oak casks, where it remained for between 12 and 14 months, regularly racked, to create great finesse. The wine was then lightly fined using egg whites before bottling. The 'Viña Real Crianza' shows a full, morello cherry, ruby red colour with good intensity. It is rich, deep and balanced. On the palate it is well structured with plenty of fine, lingering rich fruit and a lively note of tannin.
Editorial Reviews for Cvne Compania Vinicola Norte de Espana Rioja Vina Real Crianza
A little hard and ungenerous on the nose with notes of old wood, earth, burnt fruit and rubberbands. In the mouth this shows lots of lovely fruit with bright acids that lend a clear, precise feel to the wine. There’s a touch a vanilla on the backend and the finish is long and expansive with the same earthy black raspberry fruit that dances across the palate. This is young and austere, even for traditional Rioja, but is so well balanced and elegant that it shares more with Burgundy than most Rioja produced today. A great value. 91pts
Sugared plum aromas with cherries. Juicy wine with well integrated oak and dark chocolate, raspberries and a bit of Dr. Pepper.
Nose of pie cherry, peat and smoked meat. The palate has lots of creamy red berry and fruit that lingers on the finish with some hints of pepper.
Nose of horse feathers, mango, cherry, and hazelnuts. The mouth has some vanilla and lots of cherry, very mild body, but the taste persists
Loved the finish on this wine as it's one you drink, savor, and ponder all that's there and then need another drink.
Had it with some tapas. Very floral at the nose, but tart on the tongue.
