Brancott Pinot Noir 2010
Deep garnet red in color, this wine exhibits cherry, plum and blackberry fruits accentuated with savory spice highlights. It has a fleshy mid-palate displaying ripe cherry, subtle spice and rich, velvety tannins, with fruit weight carrying the full length of the palate to its finish. The beauty of Pinot Noir is that it is always approachable when young, so this wine can be enjoyed upon release, but it nevertheless has sufficient tannin structure to enable it to develop and evolve with a further two or three years ageing. As with all Pinot Noir, it will perfectly suit duck dishes and red meat dishes incorporating mushrooms.
1st New Zealand Pinot I've tried, and it was very enjoyable. Very light on its feet, with cherry, raspberry, strawberries and a green floral element. Lively acidity balances the fruit very well. Not a whole lot on the finish, but a pleasant surprise on the whole.
Light bodied and in color. Soft and round mouth feel. Strawberry beginnings with a slightly unbalanced acidity that mellows as the taste progresses. Slight cherry finish. Decent value.
The nose showed blueberry and cherry with spicy vanilla and hints of undergrowth. On the palate, it was tight and focused with black cherry, spices and stems, leading to a finish with bright, tart red fruit. The texture was smooth yet with a stern acidic backbone, which detracted slightly from my overall impression of the wine.
