Boutari Naoussa Grande Reserve 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

Deep red colour with chestnut colored tints. Complex bouquet, with prevailing aromas of dried fruit, like tomato and fig. Further examination will reveal notes of wood and olive. A robust wine with a rich body, which maintains an insistent but calm aggression, due to its tannins.

A slight bramble berry and cough medicine nose with a creamy, smooth, soft, and mildly tannic entry, this Naoussa is ready for drinking. Some herbal bitters on the finish but well balanced otherwise. A very good wine for the price. Try with lamb souvlaki. 88 points.

Winemaker's Notes: Subtle aroma of dried fruit that also gives off a woody scent. Robust wine with body characterized by an abundance of mature tannins. The Grande Reserve Naoussa pairs well with game, red meat and sharp cheeses. source: wine.com

Wine Tasting NotesBoutari Grande Reserve Naoussa is one of Boutari's first and best-known wines. It is the first red wine from Greece to introduce the designation of limited and controlled production among Greek wines. This fine red wine has been awarded numerous distinctions at prestigious international competitions. Boutari Grande Reserve Naoussa blends the tannic Xinomavro variety with the softness of barrel and bottle aging. Greece's 'Grande Reserve' designation is only be granted to wines that are barrel aged for two years (minimum), and then subsequently bottle aged for an additional two years (minimum). A wine apt to ageing wine, the approximate lifespan in a proper cellar is 12-15 years. Serve at 64F accompanied by dishes of game with spicy sauces and yellow cheeses.
