Blue Mountain Chardonnay 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2008 Chardonnay displays complex flavours of citrus and toast with a fresh yet rich lemony character, and anise notes on the finish. The structure of the wine will allow it to age beautifully for 4-6 years.

Top restaurants where you can find the wine

Tofino: Wickaninnish Inn http://www.wickinn.com/

Vancouver and Whistler Area: http://www.bluemountainwinery.com/page.php?pageID=153&parentID=198

The whole list can be found with the link above.

Vancouver:

Bishop's Restaurant, Blue Water Café, Cioppino's, Five Sails Restaurant, Four Seasons Hotel (Vancouver and Whistler), Hotel Vancovuer - Fairmont Hotel, Sutton Place Hotel, Wedgewood Hotel

Whistler:

Bearfoot Bistro

Alberta:

Fairmont Palliser Hotel, The Post Hotel (Lake Louise), Banff Springs Hotel (Fairmont), Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Recipes, food or type of food that well fit with the wine

Crab

Wild Mushroom Risotto

Squash Soup

Blue Mountain welcomes you to experience wines using exclusively estate grown grapes from its South Okanagan vineyard. Focusing on varietal wines made from Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, and Pinot Noir, Blue Mountain strives to produce complex, age-worthy wines, consistent in style while allowing the expression of both the terroir and the individual growing season. At Blue Mountain, it also means the use of 100% estate-grown grapes. Following the estate concept to its fullest extent sets Blue Mountain apart from most North American wineries. Indeed, in the burgeoning industry of the Okanagan Valley, Blue Mountain can make the rare claim of more than 36 years of continuous grape production by one family. The grapes that are harvested for Blue Mountain wines are sourced solely from its own vineyard. A philosophy of sustainable land management ensures limited chemical input. Using classic varietals, which originate in France in growing conditions like our own, we limit our crop yields resulting in higher concentration of the fruit. In the winery, winemaker Matt Mavety combines new technology with traditional techniques. The wines are handled minimally to ensure that the delicacy and intensity of flavours cultivated in the vineyard are expressed in the wine. French oak barrels are used in the cellar to soften and add complexity. All of these factors combine to result in a style and finesse fitting to the varietals. Read less

Light yellow in color - typical at this age - this wine opens to the nose with gobs of citrus (especially lime rind) and cold table grapes. The attack is quite tart - very much like Premier Cru Chablis, though perhaps a bit short on minerality. A good, moderately lengthy and spicy finish. Nice quality and capable of aging another 2-3 years given the fresh acidity.
