Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Alsace Aoc Herrenweg de Turckheim 2011

Member Review by Vigasia:

It's my glory to be able to meet with the owner and winemaker Oliver Humbrecht, the first Master of Wine in France and a leader in bio-dynamics, of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in one of the tasting event Oct 2009 in Hong Kong. Below is my tasting note: Appearance: Clear, medium intensity, with golden color On the Nose: Hints of stone fruits like peach and apricot, pear, floral On Palate: Dry, medium acidity, light to medium bodied, with strong stone fruit characteristics; medium to long finish; Overall very good quality as expected.

The annual cycle of work, parallel with cycle of nature, consists of a number of interventions, comprising biological treatments against the diseases and others aiming at improving the quality. mong the latter, the pruning is particularly decisive. Too severe, it prevents the harmonious development of the vine, insufficient, the vine will overproduce unripen grapes. A this moment, the presence of Paul’s grandson Pierre-Paul Humbrecht, is of utmost importance to the vineyard, to prune correctly and at the right time. Given unfavourable climatic conditions, the harvest may suffer but when the seasons flow normally the right pruning will be rewarded by a juice of very high quality. hen the vine has had its budburst, the disbudding (selection of branches) and desuckering (supression of the growths resulting from sucker from the trunk), are made manually to avoid any harmful effect to the vine. During the bloom, trimming consists in shortening the end of the branches leaving just the right quantity of good quality leafs that the young vine needs. During ripening, the stripping to improve the exposure of the grapes to the sun and thinning out the grapes in excess must be done with precision in order to obtain a harvest of great quality. orking the ground consists of several heavy duty work. Hilling up the vine, ploughing down and plowing between the rows of vine are accomplished each year. Naturally, Pierre-Paul Humbrecht is using the latest agricultural technologies to ease the task while remaining in harmony with nature, thus our advance towards biological agriculture or rather the search of our origins towards the Earth... This integrates all its elements, with juicy citrus acidity highlighting the pretty orange blossom, star fruit, yellow peach and spice notes, followed by a lightly smoky finish. This has the weight for food, but itandrsquo;s delicious on its own. Drink now through 2020.

Like an explosion in a flower shop, this exuberant white offers up harmonious scents of gardenias, carnations and white roses alongside lower tones of petrol and slate. It’s intense, flavorful and starting to show some development. Try with classic French fish preparations.

Pale yellow-gold. Austere but rich nose hints at dried fruits. Then dense and fat in the mouth, with hints of peach and honey. A very concentrated wine whose alcohol gives it an impression of slight sweetness. Finishes with somewhat exotic notes of orange, honey and dried fruits.
