Wolf Blass Gold Label 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

TASTING NOTES: The 2002 Gold Label Barossa Shiraz is rich velvety red in colour. Scents of liquorice, spice and sweet, ripe berry rise up from the glass and flow into a palate jammed with blackberry fruit, fragrant spice and wellintegrated smoky oak. The finish demonstrates elegant fine tannins. The Barossa is Shiraz paradise. Wide daily temperature ranges thicken grape skins to develop wine colour and structure. Warm summer temperatures develop maximum ripeness, and low rainfall ensures juice concentration. REVIEWS: Rated 91- #73 of The Top 100. Harvey Steiman's Recommended Australian Reds: Smart Buys Powerhouse Australian Shirazes. Twelve Classic-Rated wines top this year's reds from down under. [Rocking Horse, paired with chicken burrito, salsa, guac] Not my style, though recognized some nice qualities. But thought the tar taste was out of balance with the wine; slightly enhanced by the spicy salsa.
