Winter's Hill Estate Dundee Hills Pinot Noir Reserve 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

For the 2008 Reserve, Winemaker Delphine Gladhart selected 5 barrels of Pinot noir from 3 different blocks of the vineyard. Each barrel brought a distinctive flavor or structural attribute to the wine, creating a whole greater than the sum of its parts. -Two new barrels were selected from Block 4. This is the first time that wine from Block 4 has been selected for the Reserve bottling. In some years, Block 4 can be our most challenging block. Late afternoon shade means that it receives less sunshine and heat accumulation than blocks that face due south. The exceptional wine that Block 4 produced in 2008 just proves the Oregon philosophy that it is by planting vineyards on the "edge" that we have the potential to create truely great wines. -One new barrel from Block 10 provides structure. Between 625-700 feet elevation, it is our highest elevation block. Just over 10 years old, the vines are really coming into their own. -Two barrels were selected from Block 3, one new, and one 2-years old. Located where our vineyard rolls slightly to the southeast, this block is our most consistent for the subtle fruit and perfume that has made Oregon Pinot noir famous.

Tasting Notes:

Nose is very spicy with black currant and blackberry. Currant and cherry predominates in the mouth. The combination of rich ripe flavors, and great acidity means that you can age this wine for many years. It's delicious now, but if you wait until 2015-18, you will not regret it.
