A 100% Garnacha (Grenache) from 80-100 year old vines, this wine is packed with kirsch, plums, and mulberry fruit. Elegant and smooth.
Medium red. Powerful aromas of vivid strawberry and raspberry, complicated by a lusty floral quality. Fleshy and sweet, with tangy acid lift to the pure red berry flavors and a long, juicy finish. Gains a spicy character with air: this would be great in a blind flight of $30 New World pinots.
The 2005 G4 from Carinena raises the bar significantly. It exhibits more aromatic complexity, greater depth and concentration, and enough structure to drink well for 2-3 years.
Ruby-red. Enticing bouquet of wild strawberry, raspberry preserves and fresh flowers. Sweet, silky and luscious, with impressive sweetness and focus to the red fruit flavors. Finishes supple and explosively sweet, with a liqueur-like concentration to the juicy raspberry flavor that's leavened by fresh, tangy acids. A great value.
I first enjoyed this 100% Garnacha (Grenache) at its birthplace in Spain. Imagine hiking stone paths around cascading waterfalls, then sipping at a centuries-old monastery. When I revisited it at home in Tonawanda, I loved it just as much. It has rich aromas of fruit and spice, intense framboise and a sweet, supple character. Inventive winemakers claimed freedom from traditional styles and gave G-numbers to unique, great-tasting wines. Enjoy - and try G5!
