Ventisquero Pinot Noir Reserva 2008
Founded in 1998 by Gonzalo Vial, owner of Chile’s leading fresh food producer, Agrosuper, Viña Ventisquero winery is one of the most modern in Chile yet manages to retain a ‘boutique’ and innovative outlook. Viña Ventisquero is the first vineyard in Latin America to make use of a state-of-the-art integrated Management System which has led to its acquisition of three certifications (ISO9001, ISO14001 and HACCP) relating to human health and the highest quality and strictest environmental policy. It is all of these things that has enabled Vina Ventisquero to combine traditional methods of viticulture with the most up-to-date means of vinification. This Pinot Noir is deep ruby red. Aroma of red fruits, such as cherry, strawberry with a touch of vanilla from the oak gives a delicate complexity. An elegant wine with a good balance, medium body and soft tannin finish.
Received this pinot as a gift, have never had a Chilean pinot before, but like some of their whites. Typical pinot translucency in the glass is always a great start. Initial nose was a little funky and earthy, but some bright cherries shined through. A few swirls in my mouth showed some tart cherries up front, some soil, and a touch of gaminess on the backend. Well balanced and interesting, I definitely like this pinot a lot. Keeps my interest and is palatable on its own, but definitely would show well with a great meal.
