97 points James Suckling: This is the best young Sassicaia in years. It's the new 1988, which was great, and sometimes better than the legendary 1985. What incredible aromas here with blueberries, spices, licorice, plums. Graphite too. Subtle and complex. Full and silky with a beautiful texture of fine tannins and an ultra-fine finish. So beautiful now but will be much better in 2015. Owner Niccolo Incisa della Rocchetta says that Sassicaia is always great in years that end with eight: 1958, 1968, 1978, 1988, 1998, and 2008.

The 2006 Guidalberto is a showstopper. This opulent, super-ripe wine bursts from the glass with the essence of sweet, dark fruit, smoke, tar and licorice, showing stunning depth in its richness and expansiveness. Everything is in the right place, as the wine possesses superb balance, particularly in the way its structural components are beautifully woven into the fabric of its fruit. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this wine, yet it should continue to improve to age 20, perhaps beyond. An undeniable success, Tenuta San Guidorsquo;s 2006 Guidalberto is a great example of an overachieving wine in this important Tuscan vintage. It is highly recommended. Guidalberto is Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. Anticipated maturity: 2010ndash;2026.
Aromas of toasty oak and ripe fruit lead to a full body, with a solid core of fruit and a chewy finish. Needs some time to come around. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best after 2011.
Sweet blackberry character, with hints of blueberry and black licorice. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a fresh herb and berry aftertaste. Very tannic. Needs time. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best after 2011.
Medium-deep ruby. Perfumed aromas of cherry, blueberry and leather are given extra lift by a smoky complexity. Manages to be both fleshy and acidic at the same time, with ripe yet refined fruit flavors and a smooth, long finish. A very modern-styled wine from this estate, but one that does not forego any of its trademark firm acidity.
Guidalberto (a 60-40 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) opens with dense, inky concentration and fresh tones of forest fruit and wild blackberry. The wine is bright and silky with a fresh cherry fade: Pair it with spezzatino di manzo (classic beef stew).
The estatersquo;s 2004 Guidalberto (45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Sangiovese) beautifully captures the pedigree of its superior vintage. It presents a lively, darker color as well as a more vibrant, well-delineated set of aromas and flavors, including suggestions of dark cherries, violets, toasted oak and earthiness with a lovely underlying note of minerality and long, fresh finish. Although the Guidalberto is not made from the same vineyards as Sassicaia, it is hard not to wonder how that wine will turn out in this important vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2008ndash;2016.
