Stolpman 96700061 Stolpman Syrah Estate 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

92 points Stephen Tanzers International Wine Cellar: "Opaque ruby. Exotically perfumed bouquet of dark berries, Christmas spices, violet and minerals. Elegant, medium-bodied red and dark berry flavors stain the palate, with a dusty mineral quality contributing energy. Sappy dark berry flavors linger on the long, juicy finish. This is already delicious." (Nov/Dec 08) 90 points from Robert Parker: "There are 2,000 cases of the 2006 Syrah Estate, a blend of 85% Syrah and 15% Grenache. Its complex, tarry, camphor, pepper, and meaty notes are offered in a savory, fleshy style. While it does not possess the power, complexity, and overall richness of the 2006 Hilltops, it should provide pleasure over the next 5-6 years. Stolpman Vineyards continues to produce impressive wines under the guidance of the highly regarded Santa Ynez winemaker, Sashi Moorman." (06/08) One of the best properties on Californias Central Coast, Stolpman continues to massage the best out of Syrah in this region. With exotic notes of jasmine, blackberry and sandalwood, there is tremendous purity to this wine, but also a striking balance of smoked meats and pepper. At its new retail price of $20 you would have to spend twice as much to get anything this good.
