Stanton Petite Sirah Estate Napa Valley 2006

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Wow this has fine fruit tones on the nose with wonderful depth. This is very ripe yet not over-ripe with well integrated toasty oak and nuanced floral tones as well as notes of ink, blackberry liquor/syrup, macerated flowers, cedar, vanilla minor note, musk, bitter roots and earth. Polished yet big and round. Slippery in the mouth but in a good way with excellent balance and old-vine intensity. The flavors are layered with sweet boysenberry/blueberry fruits dominating the palate and minor notes of spice, herbs a subtle vegetal/green bean tone, shaved bitter chocolate and espresso crema tones. A great crisp finish tops everything off. 92pts

The Stanton family has been growing grapes in the Napa Valley since 1947. We began making our own wine in 1999. For this first vintage and the next three we used grapes exclusively from our Oakville vineyard. In addition to the Oakville property, the Stanton family owns two vineyards in St. Helena. We presently grow seven different red-wine varieties which include: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Petite Sirah and Mourvedre. With the combination of great "estate grown" fruit and the artistic winemaking skill of our winemaker, Dave Phinney, we hope to continue growing and producing wines that you will enjoy. The Stanton family grows several varieties of grapes on 75 acres of vineyards at three locations in the Napa Valley: Oakville, Mills Lane in St. Helena, and J.B. Ranch also located in St. Helena.
