Stags' Leap Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

"This is a fresh, juicy wine with well-delineated blueberry and blackberry flavors buoyed by fresh herbs and a touch of spice. The oak is seamlessly integrated, showcasing rather than masking the fruit, and the tannins are reactive without being aggressive. Long on fruit, this is a coherent, focused and bright Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon." -Winery

A vibrant, rich ruby color segways into aromas of freshly picked strawberries, followed by hints of ripe blackberries and blueberries. Well-integrated aromatic notes of shortbread, vanilla, clove, white pepper and fresh herbs, particularly anise, provide layers of complexity and intrigue. Supple and silky tannins lead to a lingering juicy berry finish.

The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the elegant success that resulted from the cooler 2011 vintage. Black currant, cherry and blueberry aromatics remain distinctly bright in this inviting wine. The palate offers a layered complexity of forest floor, savory herbs, and sweet tobacco that seamlessly blends with the vibrant red fruit. Persistent tannins frame a round, full structure and soft, fresh finish. - Winery

This wine’s red currant fruit is sweet and ripe, taking some time to coalesce out of the dry, woody tannins and tart acidity. With air, it forms a simple, clean line of cassis flavor, a focused, savory red to decant for roast lamb.

Juicy cassis fills the palate in this balanced wine, blended with small percentages of Malbec, Merlot and Petit Verdot. With a leathery texture and earthy underbody, it’s mellow with supple finish.
