Big, rich, complex zin from Amador County. Loads of dark fruit, prunes, dried fig, earthy texture, chewy, some smoke, and a fairly long finish.
This has been my go to BBQ zin for some time. Spicy and rich with lots of silky jammy black, briary fruit and black pepper. A true old vine zin for under $15!

Made entirely from organically grown grapes, this stylish wine has very forward berry-like aromas and flavors that are rich and full with a deep lingering finish.
A plush textured wine, it shows intriguing hints of bacon, vanilla and caramel, in addition to the primary plum, black cherry, cola and herbs notes. Tea and smoke bring up the rear.

Zinfandel is the one red varietal that I absolutely cannot escape. I try to pick other types, but I usually return to Zin. In this case it is the Sobon Estate Cougar Hill Zin, I loved its deep, sweet fruit aromas of blueberries and loganberries. It is a very well balanced wine, melding flavors of dark berries and cocoa powder with a touch of vanillin oak to smooth out the finish. The immense fruit is balanced by a perfect acidity and subtle tannic backbone. The trend, as of late, is to amp up the alcohol content in California Zins to astronomical levels, some nearing 17%. That is a little extreme for my taste; the Cougar Hill Zin is a little more restrained at 14.2%. The fruit-forward style is great for summer foods, especially smoky barbecue.
Just this side of dry, this is a round, soft, polished Zin, rich in cherry, cassis, coffee and milk chocolate flavors, with a pleasantly spicy, peppery finish. It's a lush wine with a small percent of Syrah.
Forward and easy in cherry, currant, raspberry, tangerine zest, cola and peppery spice flavors, this Zin has a gentle texture. Thereandrsquo;s also a wealth of firm, dusty tannins that could help the wine age for a few years.
This is a big, gold-country red with substantial mineral tannins that feel polished, like iron buffed to a black sheen. The fruit gentles those tannins, adding a complex range of flavors from red-apple skin and cherries to blackberries and prunes. Decant it for meaty lasagna or pasta with a hefty ragu.
