This ruby red, 100% Aglianico wine is aged in medium-toasted French barrels for 8 months. The nose is rich and intense with red berry. The fresh-tasting palate of strawberry and cherry flavors is well balanced and soft. Finish is smooth. Recommended to pair with white or red meat, hard cheeses, or pate.

Situated in the tiny village of Sorbo Serpico in Campania's Irpinia region, this highly acclaimed estate was established in 1986. Along with the expert guidance of consulting enologist Riccardo Cotarella, one of Italy’s most esteemed winemaking talents, Feudi di San Gregorio has emerged into the international limelight as a great success story in a region that, for many years, was locked in a virtual winemaking holding pattern. Feudi di San Gregorio has aggressively tapped into the enormous potential of Campania's unique terroir and ancient varietals by placing a thoroughly modern spin on indigenous grapes such as Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo and Aglianico. Feudi di San Gregorio sources its grapes from the finest vineyards set in the rolling hills of the Irpinia region, located in close proximity to Mount Vesuvius. The volcano's legendary eruptions have laden the sandstone and marl soil with mineral-rich deposits of volcanic ash, forming a unique composition that imparts highly distinctive aromas and flavors in the grapes. Recognizing that a keen understanding of climatic conditions is indispensable to the successful cultivation of vines, Feudi di San Gregorio has invested extensively in state-of-the-art winemaking technology. Rubrato Aglianico 2010 - 88 points , Wine Enthusiast/ This is nicely balanced and easy in terms of its tannins and overall intensity, with enough structure to pair with game meat or succulent red meat. The bouquet is redolent of spice, black fruit and crushed granite.

Despite his background, Capaldo remains humble, eager to learn... all qualities which should serve him very well going forward. Noted agronomist Pierpaolo Sirch oversees the work in the vineyards and cellar.

Rubrato 2006 - 89 Points, Wine Review Online/ This is a very tasty, broadly useful rendition of Aglianico, which is almost certainly the finest red variety of southern Italy. Medium-bodied, the wine shows bright blackberry and black raspberry fruit that is amply supplied with fresh acidity. The tannins are very fine in grain, and there are interesting nuances of carpaccio and leather in the wine’s aromas. Pair with lighter pastas with tomato-based sauces or with white meats.

Rubrato 2006 - 3 Stars, Guide to Italian Wines/ Light purple with aromas of black cherry, plum and licorice. Medium-full with very good concentration. Ripe fruit and ample oak. Good acidity and refined tannins. Earthy finish with notes of tar. Nice varietal character.

Rubrato 2006/ Here is a modern expression of Aglianico with soft vanilla-like nuances lavished over black fruit, plum cake, spice and cola. The wine is dense and thick with toasted notes and fresh blackberry flavors.

/ Blueberry, blackberry and cherry candy are backed by deep and penetrating notes of ash, pencil lead, mineral and licorice. The wine delivers vigor and personality and is a fine example of a Campania red with a solid structure and lasting finish.
