Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel Alexander Valley Harris Kratka Vineyard 2009

Member Review by EMark:

Deep dark red plum color. Oaky, musty nose. Fairly big in the mouth. Very fruity on the tip of the tongue--plum, cherry--almost, not quite, sweet. Rough tannin and oak are noticeably. This one points to the big jammy Zinfandel style that you either love or hate, but it really doesn't go there. Looking forward to having this one with a grilled sirloin in a little bit. US$29.99 last July.

There is a pleasant blackberry hint on introduction to the palate, but nothing obnoxious. Then, I, sadly, detect over the top on the alcohol. Then there is a serious hit of tannin—with which I am very OK. After about 40 minutes of air, components seem a bit more integrated, but I still don’t think it’s enough. Now, it’s tasting more jammy.

Very smooth, light tannins, moderate acid, chocolate. Rich, just right balance. Vanilla.

Soft and velvety with nice acid structure makes this a perfect Zinfandel for the cellar or pair now with rosemary grilled lamb or marinated salmon from the BBQ.

Wine Spectator gave it a 90 point score saying "Ripe and briary, this is jammed with intense flavors. Aromas of blackberry jam and toasty sage lead to concentrated plum, licorice and white pepper flavors. Tannins firm up the finish."
