Rocca di Frassinello Poggio Alla Guardia 2010
Editorial Reviews for Rocca di Frassinello Poggio Alla Guardia
Originally around $17 a bottle I’m seeing this priced as low as $12 in many places. 45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Sangiovese Big and aromatic on the nose with a an early hit of spicy green herbs and tomato leaf followed by notes of leather, sandy soil, a hint of sea air and some dark, tarry fruits all topped with an odd hint of banana. Round and plump on entry with bright acids quickly helping to sort this out. The herbal notes on the nose dominate this early on the palate, and help keep the core of raspberry and red currant fruit fresh and lively. The tannins are polished and well covered here, lending some weight to the medium plus bodied palate without becoming angular or drying. Not terribly fruity, this is pleasant with a nice spicy character and noticeable tomato flavors. I would have thought that this had a big hit of Cabernet Franc in it judging from the nose and palate. 87pts
