The Rhone Valley-like 2002 Zinfandel Napa Ranches exhibits a deep ruby/purple color along with an opulent, sexy personality revealing loads of raspberries, wild mountain berries, and peppery, earthy spice. This full-bodied, lusty, heady Zinfandel will drink well for 1ndash;3 years.
Napa Ranches is a top-notch Zinfandel blend sourced from Aldorsquo;s and Black Chicken in Napa, Old Crane in St. Helena, Stagnaro in Calistoga, and Priest Ranch above Chiles Valley. Therersquo;s also a dollop of Petite Sirah, 18%, from Thomann Station in St. Helena. Blackish ruby in color, this Zinfandel exhibits plum and cherry preserves with lavender, pepper, allspice, vanilla and toast on its full-bodied, viscous and fleshy palate. This third vintage has excellent balance and fine tannins.
Another outstanding, sexy effort is the 2004 Zinfandel Napa Ranches (15.8% alcohol), which offers up gorgeous scents of black cherries, licorice, smoke, and blackberries. Ripe, pure, and voluptuously textured with well-integrated acidity and wood, it will drink beautifully over the next 5ndash;7 years.
