Reyneke Sauvignon Blanc Stellenbosch 2010

Member Review by Mary John Baumann, DWS:

Pioneer Johan Reyneye knew what he was doing when he converted his conventional wine farm outside of Stellenbosch into the only Demeter certified biodynamic vineyard in South Africa. His wines speak a different language, infused with purity, honesty and lacking the "typicity" many consumers link to South Africa. His 2010 Sauvingon Blanc is delicately laced with ripe white stone fruit, white floral aromas and creamy richness. It dances gracefully on palate with seamless integration of acidity and alcohol and sublime weight. The finish goes on and on. Worth seeking out. Tasted at the estate March 2012.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Whole-bunch and fermented in old casks the 2010 Sauvignon Blanc is a little muted on the nose at first: subtle grassy aromas a touch of crushed stone with hints of beeswax and wax resin. The palate is very natural with succinct mineral and waxy notes with touches of pear skin and honeysuckle on the phenolic finish. This is a complex engaging Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now-2015. -NM Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
