When walking in the chateau grounds it is obvious that its history goes further back than the 1855 classification. Citran is actually one of the Medoc's oldest seigneuries. Numerous Marquis de Donnissan, related to the family of France, reigned here for 600 years and only abandoned their chateau in the middle of the 18th century. Since then the chateau has gone through different phases. The various owners and the general financial crisis meant that the surface of the vineyards varied between 90 hectares to less than 4 hectares. The wine's quality reflected these fluctuations. Things got better in 1945 when the Miailhe brothers bought the property. Ten years ago a serious boost in the research for quality was set in motion. An accumulation of hard work and the huge investments initiated by the precedent Japanese owners brought Citran back towards the Haut Medoc elite. This transition was carried through under the leadership of the new and exacting owners. The Merlaut-Villars family is well known in the Medoc. They are true connoisseurs of wine and land. A symbol of this old cru Bourgeois wine's new-found youth is the arrival of young Céline Villars who will from now on represent the chateau. Read less

This has quite a bite with acidity and a strong cut of spirit. Flavors of dried raisins and sultana put it on the dry side of aged tawny. At the end, spice and the wood aging dominate this austere wine.

Orange-red in colour with a touch of green.A well-rounded, generous aroma with balance and a hint of wine. Fruit aromas includeorange, apricot and plum. Vanilla and old Port wine casks make up its woody aromas. This isa fruity tawny variety. In the mouth, one can still taste the fresh fruit surrounded by the ageing in wood. A goodstructure and perfect balance between fruit and alcohol. The attack on the palate is smooth and full-bodied. Following the initial oily feel, a fresh, softfruitiness appears which finishes with a slightly acidic, woody note.

Weingut: Ramos PintoRegion: DouroRebsorte: Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barocca, Touriga Franca, Touriga NacionalInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 19,5 Vol.%Gesamtsäure: 4,06 g/lRestsüße: 106,0 g/lFassreife: Holzfass (mindestens 10 Jahre)empfohlene Serviertemperatur: 18-22 °C Auszeichnungen:17,5 Punkte in Portuguese Wines3 Sterne Decanter RecommendedMundus Vini 85-89 Punkte Silbermedaile 2006 Port - Sherry > Port

The toffee and mocha flavors are concentrated and powerful in this rich tawny. Deeply spiced, filled with hints of white chocolate and allspice midpalate, this delivers a plush finish filled with orange rind and glazed apricot notes. Drink now through 2018.

Ramos Pinto 10 Year Tawny has a brick red golden hue, with raiseny, nutty, floral notes. Very pleasant acidity keeps the alcohol in balance. Very impressed by this single vineyard Tawny.
