This has a sweet, brambly/herbal nose that shows its alcohol a bit too much. The heat accentuates a minty, chalky character but there are nice notes of lingonberry jam. Sweet on entry with pure raspberry fruit that is backed up with grace notes of tree bark, orange peel, and backing spices. The texture is a bit thick and slick with integrated acidity and soft, ripe tannins. Clean and brisk on the finish with a core of woodsiness and raspberry jam that leads to a final touch of spicy heat. Simple but big. 85pts
Great buy from Trader Joe's at only $8.99. Really classic Zin taste. I normally like a Zin at 15% but this 13.8% is great!

[Edited, thought this was the blend; I've had the straight Zin now too]. A tart Zinfandel which is to my liking, but not as exciting as the blend with Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah. Good buy though.
I'm lukewarm on this one. I agree with the tartness comment posted on one of the other reviews. I also thought it was thin.

The 2001 Zinfandel, a blend of 88% Zinfandel, 12% Petite Sirah (13.9% alcohol), offers an attractive fig, earthy, cherry, briery nose. While not complex, it is a pleasant, satisfying, medium-bodied, spicy Zinfandel with an angular finish. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
Made from benchland grapes, this Claret-styled Zin shows depth of flavors, and a rich intensity suited for lamb or grilled steak dinners.
