Poggio Al Tesoro Vermentino 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Poggio al Tesoro is the result of a joint venture between the Allegrini family of Verona, northern Italy and American importer, Leonardo Lo Cascio. Situated in Bolgheri, on Italy’s Tyrrhenian coast, this 70 hectare property was acquired in 2001 by the Allegrini family. They brought in consultant winemaker Alberto Antonini to advise on viticulture and winemaking. 2003 was the first vintage. Grapes for the Solosole are grown in the Le Sondraie vineyard which covers 7 hectares. It faces west, with deep sandy soils with gravel and clay. Yields are 58 hl/ha. This wine is deep straw yellow in colour, it is fine and clean on the nose, with floral and fruity perfumes characteristic of Vermentino including white flowers, apricot and tropical fruits. On the palate, it is dry and fresh, with good balance between fruit and a fresh zippy acidity.

The 2007 Vermentino Solosole is a silky, generous white loaded with expressive, perfumed fruit supported by an underlying vein of acidity that provides balance and length. For its Vermentino the estate chose a clone originally from Corsica that allows for a late harvest without sacrificing acidity. This unoaked Vermentino offers uncommon richness and depth. Anticipated maturity: 2008andndash;2010.

Apples and cream on the nose, with hints of lime. Medium-bodied, with plenty of flavor and a lively finish. A delicious and vivid white. Drink now.
