Penner-Ash Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Carabella Vineyard 2007
A stunning blend of some of the finest vineyards in all of Oregon. For Pinot fans this particular vintage consists of stellar sources that should ring a bell: Shea Dussin Wonderlea Ana and Revana to name just a few. Red raspberry baking spice and sweet dried fruit aromas compliment a vibrant palate of red cherry chocolate and cinnamon. A purity of red fruit combined with a lush texture and refined tannins compliment a nuanced finish of strawberry and vanilla. This delicious Pinot can be enjoyed now and over the next five years. It is an ideal pairing with grilled salmon but can also stand up to pork and red meat as well.
Lynn started Penner-Ash Wine Cellars with husband Ron in 1998, carefully crafting small amounts of Pinot noir and Syrah, while she was still at Rex Hill. Their early success with the label caused them to dream of what they could create and in 2001 they began building the Penner-Ash brand full time. Penner-Ash has achieved impressive growth, going from 125 cases of Pinot noir in 1998 to a projected 8,000 cases of Pinot noir and Syrah in 2007.

The deep crimson-colored 2007 Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard reveals toasty barrel notes, a bit of scorched earth, and darker fruit than the Williamette Valley cuvee. On the palate it exhibits layered, savory fruit, good depth and sweetness of fruit. There is enough underlying ripe tannin to support another 2andndash;3 years of bottle age and it will provide optimal drinking from 2011 to 2019.
Vivid red. Forward, expressive aromas of raspberry, cherry, Asian spices and smoky herbs. Fleshy but taut, with nicely focused red and dark berry flavors and good back-end cut. Refreshingly nervy and precise, with good spicy persistence. A bit of bottle age should bring more depth and sweetness.
Light and beautifully focused, with a delicate mineral note weaving through the cherry and currant fruit, all of it lingering effortlessly. Drink now through 2012.
Lynn Penner-Ash headed the winemaking team at Rex Hill for 14 years before leaving in 2002 to focus full time on her own label, which she and her husband, Ron, started in 1998. Typically cool Oregon was blazing hot in 2003, and Penner-Ash blended grapes from eight different vineyards and aged the wine for 10 months in French oak to create a supple Pinot with dense flavors.
