Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Casting aromas of blackberries, currants and subtle spice, this crimson-colored wine is polished and focused. Firm tannins envelope concentrated flavors of black plum, currant and subtle spice; notes of bakers chocolate, vanilla and oak gracefully linger throughout the lengthy finish.

Paul Hobbs Winery:
Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul wasn’t satisfied just becoming Head Enologist of Robert Mondavi’s Opus One in 1981, or becoming Vice-President/Winemaker of Simi Winery in 1989. No, he wanted to create his very own grapes, on his own land. This passion led to the creation of Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991. Focused in the Russian River Valley, each harvest is meticulously captured so as to extract the very best from each grape. This passion started with only three wines in the winery’s repertoire: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon, but the winery quickly grew to produce over a dozen wines. Today, Paul Hobbs still consults other wineries around the globe, including wineries in Chile, Argentina, and Hungary. Read less

The nose showed sweet raspberry jam, incense, mocha and spice. On the palate, a burst of intense concentration submitted to a wave of balanced, mouth watering acidity as flavors of sour cherry, sweet jam and herbs washed across the senses. The finish was long but fresh and left me aching for another sip. This was a beautiful and rich California cabernet that shows remarkable value for what's in the bottle. I will buy it again.
