Paringa Individual Vineyard Shiraz 2005

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

Ruby-red. Blackberry and blueberry preserve aromas are lightly dusted by earth and dried herbs. Juicy and attractively sweet, with light red and dark berry flavors, silky tannins and good finishing persistence. A good bargain for straightforward, mindless drinking.

Fruit for these wines comes partly from our Estate managed vineyards at Red Hill plus fruit purchased from a number of carefully selected vineyards from other sub-regions of the Mornington Peninsula. “The quality of these wines are often equal to many other vineyards best” (James Halliday) The fruit for these wines is from our mature low yielding Estate grown vineyards. A combination of vine age and careful vineyard management produces our best quality fruit. Between 30% and 50% new French Oak combined with the powerful fruit flavours produce the unique Paringa "style" upon which our reputation has been built. Read less

Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Supple and fragrant. A lithe mouthful of currant and pomegranate shaded with hints of fresh red pepper. Drink now through 2009.

Bright and appealing for its pretty blueberry and plum flavors, shaded with white pepper notes as the flavors persist, picking up a touch of coffee on the finish. Drink now through 2005.

The 2002 Shiraz Individual Vineyard is muted aromatically. Nevertheless, its saturated ruby/purple color, excellent texture, and weighty, lush mouthfeel are impressive. The wine, which had just been bottled, needs to settle down, but it possesses loads of character, and it should ultimately merit a score similar to the Cabernet Sauvignon. A substantial effort, it provides further evidence of just how special the 2002 vintage appears to be in South Australia.

From an are known for extraordinary high yields (18ndash;20 tons per acre), this 1999 Shiraz was cropped at 6ndash;7 tons per acre. It was designed by importer Dan Phillips to be a flavorful, full-bodied, fruitdriven Shiraz. Moreover, it is available in abundant quantities (5,500 cases). It offers a dark purple color, surprising volume and intensity, abundant quantities of cassis fruit, no oak, and plenty of fat and glycerin in its velvety-textured, mouth-filling, friendly style. Drink it over the next 5ndash;6 years. A great value!

Mirroring the complexity and depth of a well-made French Syrah, this winery from Australiarsquo;s Murray River shows off this grapersquo;s characteristically lush fruit and peppery spice. An authentic full-bodied expression of the varietal, Paringa is outstanding among its Australian peers. Flashing deep violet hues, its ripe black raspberry fruits deliver a long finish. A big wine to drink now or cellar.
