Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting Notes: Good/Very Good. Just plain fun. Clean and fresh, with plenty of kiwi and a particularly lively finish. Lacks much intensity and depth, but makes up for it in charm and fresh fruit.

Oyster Bay Wines:
Internationally-recognised for producing "elegant, assertive wines with glorious fruit flavours", Oyster Bay is also a winemaker with great viticultural vision. It was Oyster Bay that had the foresight, over two decades ago, to recognise the enormous wine-growing potential that lay beneath the stony, alluvial soils of a marginal sheep farming district in New Zealand's Hawkes Bay. Today that region is producing New Zealand's finest merlots.

Very citrussy, some lemon and lime notes, well-balanced, not bad

Typical bouquet of domestic flowers on the nose with a touch of kitchen spice (white pepper, ginger, cloves). Very floral and lemon grass on entry; typical NZ stuff for the masses. Sound.

Grassy with lime notes up front. Very sharp with mustard, green olive and lime flavors in the mouth. Crisp and refreshing. A good example of NZ Sauvignon Blanc

Served slightly chilled. Great nose with tropical fruit, pineapple, bell pepper, and grass. The bouquet of the wine really jumps out at you, definitely not like some whites where it seems you really need to concentrate to identify individual aromas. The flavors on the palate follow the nose with the addition of a slight minerality. Light body with crisp acidity. When I have sauvignon blanc it seems like I usually have to pick between either a fruity style or a more herbal/grassy style, but with this one I feel there's a bit of both. Very nice.

The 2008 Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc was a clear, light-to-medium lemon color and had slow forming legs. On the nose, the wine had nice, classic New Zealand SB aromas—green bell peppers and green apples—followed by some pineapple and a touch of fresh cut grass. In the mouth, the green peppers were the most pronounced, but blended nicely with the granny smith apple and pineapple flavors. There were also very light gooseberry and grass flavors. The wine was had a crisp acidity that was well balanced with the alcohol and body, which made for a refreshing and enjoyable Sauvignon Blanc. Bright and zingy, a lively mouthful of lime, lime peel, green apple and a whiff of herbs as the tart finish sails on and on.

Can drink alone or pair with cheese/crackers...anything really. Bell pepper. Not too acidic. Clean finish (don't feel like I HAVE to pair with food).

Pale straw green in colour with brilliant clarity, Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is zesty and aromatic with lots of lively, penetrating fruit characters. A concentration of tropical and gooseberry flavours with an abundant bouquet, it is a wine that is always crisp, elegant and refreshing.
