Oyster Bay Pinot Noir 28-3 2009
Internationally-recognised for producing "elegant, assertive wines with glorious fruit flavours", Oyster Bay is also a winemaker with great viticultural vision. It was Oyster Bay that had the foresight, over two decades ago, to recognise the enormous wine-growing potential that lay beneath the stony, alluvial soils of a marginal sheep farming district in New Zealand's Hawkes Bay. Today that region is producing New Zealand's finest merlots.
My first encounter with Pinot Noir. On the nose a damp earthy aroma with strawberry, mabey cranberry. On the palette strawberry again, very light bodied, smooth with a good tannin structure. Overall i feel very out of sorts with this wine. I liked it but im not sure why, as i found it hard to analyse. As i review this i kind of feel slightly baffled, as usually i either like a wine or i dont, but with this im left in limbo. Either way an acceptable wine, mabey a little too light for my taste but definatly would buy again for quaffing purposes.
classic pinot nose, light, fruity, lingering. Really, just delicious. Since it has a screw cap, I am going to drink a case out over the next 10 years (divine help forthcoming). It is well balanced and I bet it will last. and cheap at Sams.

Oyster Bay has turned a nicely supple, easy drinking 2009 Pinot Noir at a realistic price. Toast and vanilla notes accent strawberry fruit, finishing clean and fresh.
The philosophy of Oyster Bay is to produce fine, distinctively regional ines that are elegant and assertive with glorious fruit flavours. With every vintage we are working with more established vines from small vineyard sites, each chosen for its aspect and uniform soils of moderate fertility, providing for extended ripening and enhanced fruit flavour profiles. With pinot noir the fruit is always the primary focus. Each vineyard block is harvested as a separate parcel and treated individually at each stage of the winemaking process. This enables us to influence and enhance the wine using traditional winemaking techniques, adding subtlety and complexity. We use a combination of barrel and tank fermentation and mature the wine in a mix of new and older French oak. Oyster Bay arlborough Pinot Noir is elegant cool climate pinot noir at its best. Fragrant, soft and flavourful with aromas of ripe cherries and sweet fruit tannins that provide structure and length. - Winery
WE 86 Pts - Winemaker Notes - Fresh cherry and delicate violet notes, embraced by juicy black plum and a lingering seductive texture.
A step up in quality from the 2004, and a step down in price make this Pinot a hit any way you slice it. Black cherry and plum fruit is balanced by hints of menthol and vanilla from oak. It's on the full-bodied, muscular side and admittedly a bit chunky, but does show fine dusty tannins and decent length on the finish.

Red fruit flavors are ripe and round, almost with a candied quality. Perfumed notes of plumeria and violet give this some charm, as do the firm tannins and spice notes on the finish. Drink now through 2017.
