Mumm Napa Blanc de Blancs 2007
Th2 2007 vintage of Blanc de Blancs is 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Gris. Mumm Napa's Blanc de Blancs is a truly unique wine. The nose offers a bracing blend of fresh golden apples, ripe pear, lemon, with a hint of melon and white blossoms. The Pinot Gris influence is more pronounced in the mouth, bringing a full, fleshy body and spicy accent to the crisp and deep structure of the Chardonnay. 6% of the blend went through malolactic fermentation for an extra layer of creaminess and nutty flavors. A small amount of this blend was also aged in French Oak to add a hint of wood spices. 36 months of yeast aging in the bottle brought out nuances of warm brioche, crème brulée, toasted nuts and vanilla beans. Already enjoyable now, the 2007 Blanc de Blancs will continue to age gracefully for many years.
Editorial Reviews for Mumm Napa Blanc de Blancs
10% Pinot gris, three years on the lees Sweet on the nose, which shows an array of candied and rich dried fruit aromas: red currants, apricot and dried apples over a base of lightly toasted bread. Fresh dough flavors fill the mouth on entry and this shows a fine mousse and creamy texture up front followed by bright juicy acids. There’s lovely purity of fruit here, all lemon and pear with a hint of kiwi and a suggestion of white chocolate adding some attractive complexity to the backend, though this does peters out a touch on the finish. 89pts
