Michael and David Winery 'Earthquake' Petite Sirah 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Very smokey and oak with a lot of butterscotch and caramel with clove and black tea on the nose. Big and flat in the mouth with a hint of simple but rich black cherry/boysenberry fruit. A bit woody tannin on the back end but this is plump and rich. 86pts

Coming from select lots that have grabbed the winemakers attention with true varietal character, great depth, intensity, and tannin structure.

Opens with a blueberry and vanilla oak bouquet with a hint of smoke. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, rich, and complex. The flavor profile of this big boy is a black raspberry and coffee blend with a heavy dose of oak mixed in.

The 2005 Petite Petit, which is made from Petite Sirah, reveals beautiful blueberry and blackberry fruit, notions of graphite, spring flowers, and earth presented in a medium to full-bodied, richly fruity style with no hard edges. It is atypically soft and supple for a Petite Sirah.

Extremely spicy aromatics - clove, nutmeg, allspice and cinnamon. Mingled with the smooth and tasty juicy cherry and berry flavors, this takes on a more cedary edge. An interesting and fun interpretation. Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot. Drink now.

Intensely powerful and heavy-handed with the blackberries and black raspberries. This is a fruit bomb, but itrsquo;s a delicious fruit bomb! Any Robert Parker fans can surely appreciate the boldness of this 85% Petite Sirah and 15% Petit Verdot. Not for the faint of heart mdash; donrsquo;t even think about trying to pair this with anything lighter than smoky barbecue ribs! This wine is a guilty pleasure mdash; instantly enjoyable not only for Petite Sirah drinkers, but also for fans of California Zin and Australian Shiraz.

Intensely fragrant, smoky sandalwood and campfire notes overwhelm the wild berry and ripe plum flavors within. Still, itrsquo;s easy-drinking, with generous flavors, a lot of personality and firm tannins to give it structure. Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2010.
