Martin Ray Winery Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2009 harvest was fantastic throughout California. Abundant spring rains and a temperate growing season produced excellent fruit quality. The beautiful Indian summer weather that followed mild rain in early October allowed the grapes to reach optimum maturity.

This historic site is distinguished as the oldest winery in continuous operation in Sonoma County and one of the oldest wineries in California. Some of the old grape crush barns from the original days still exist. If you are offered a tour of the old barns, gleefully accept the invitation. The Martin Ray Winery buildings would make a great movie locale. Check out the dozen old concrete vats. Each vat holds 33,000 gallons! Martin Ray Winery production began here in 2003. 9 varietals and some bulk wine blends are made. The reserve wines are silky smooth, loaded with flavor. Prices are very reasonable for these high quality wines. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Winemaker Notes - Our goal is to allow the wine to develop its own depth and distinctive characteristics. Three days cold soaked , fermented at moderate temperatures and twelve months of aging in French oak barrels develops a rounder, creamier texture in the wine. The 2009 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir has a deep, brick red hue and lovely aromas of rose petal, violet, earth, spice and ripe berries. The soft, textured palate is layered with flavors of strawberry, raspberry and ripe fruit. This Pinot has a full finish with moderate toasty French oak.
