Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
The 2006 harvest was an excellent vintage for Alexander Valley. After a cool, wet spring, the vintage moved along quite slowly. This longer than normal ripening period allowed the vines to produce mature, intense fruit without high sugars. Our Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is fashioned in a fruitforward, easy to drink style, yet it reveals admirable complexity and length. This wine has a deep garnet hue and aromas of lush fruit: black cherry, cassis and vanilla. The rich black cherry and plum flavors are layered with hints of vanilla, creamy oak and cassis that linger on the palate. The finish is smooth and satisfying, with soft tannins complementing the intense fruit.
This is a fun easy wine and I try to have a bottle or two around for when I have guests over. Those that do not traditionally like red wine can enjoy this with a meal. Good full flavor in the mouth an excellent wine with lots of different types of meals.
It was okay. A little too sweet for a cab, and it had an overwhelming fruit flavor. It never mellowed out, which probably would have made it a pretty darn good wine. Oh well.
This is an excellent Cab at a a good price point. Affordable and delicious this wine has aromas of dark berries, smokey, dusty kindling. This is followed by flavors of dusty black fruit and a woodiness that rounds out with perfect tannins. Worth savoring each sip. V.
