Manía Verdejo Rueda 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

The Manía Verdejo is a white wine made from 100% Verdejo grapes, coming from one of the highest vineyards in the Rueda D.O. at 805 metres over sea level and of gravel and pebble soil. This wine has undergone a special carbonic maceration that last for 12 hours, in order to better extract fruit flavours. This wine has rested with its fine lees during 3 months before being bottled. This wine was launched by Félix Lorenzo Cachazo's sons, Ángela and Eduardo in 2006. Manía was launched after Angela, Eduardo and their team realized, year over year, that there was a specific tank that tasted differently after the fermentation. They discovered that that specific tank was from a special plot, the highest vineyard from Rueda with stony soil and decided to start bottling it separately from the others. They called it "manía" (obsession in Spanish) in honour of having being able to solve their own particular obsession. Try it with white meat, rice and pasta dishes (could go very well with mushroom or meat risottos), grilled salmon or tuna tartare. It will pair well with shellfish and oysters too.
