Man Vintners Pinotage 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

"In order to focus on the generous fruit notes and full body, yet keep this softer and lighter than many Pinotages, we co-fermented a portion of the Pinotage with Viognier and blended in some Shiraz. Just a touch of oak maturation means the result is delicate and pretty, with beautiful red berry flavours, a hint of cinnamon and very gentle tannins." -Winery

MAN Vintners:
This MAN thing began with three friends and an idea: to make a wine that we ourselves would love to buy. Good quality, excellent value, and cool packaging. Not exactly an epiphany, but enough to motivate us to action. What do we call it? Keeping peace in the family, we took the initials of our wives. (We each have one, that is.) Not exactly an epiphany, but enough to motivate us to action. What do we call it? Keeping peace in the family, we took the initials of our wives. (We each have one, that is.) So that is how we explained to Marie, Anette, and Nicky that we were going to be "busy" most weekends. It's for you! we told them. Could've slapped on something cute and furry but the world doesn't need another critter label. We are trying to do something different. It's the WINES we're excited about! Bold and gutsy, reflecting our extreme terroir. Grape growing in the Perdeberg Hills is not for wimps. There is little rainfall, so you have to be in tune with your vineyards. Too much crop or too much stress and you end up with grapes that can't ripen, or worse. But this is grape growing heaven for generations of our farmers. There are no fat, lazy bloated grapes here. Cherry-centric throughout with supporting elements of wild forestry, fennel, sweet spice and blood orange. The acidity is prominent but balanced within the round mouthfeel showing gripping tannins and an overall firm structure. Itrsquo;s approachable now and would pair well with fruit-stewed chicken or pork chops.

Dark fruit drives this wine, as aromas and flavors of rich black berry, plum and cherry laced with licorice root flood the senses. Round and full in the mouth but balanced with medium acidity that leads through the clean, lively finish. Drink now.

Medium red. Dark berries, plum and a whiff of woodsmoke on the nose. At once silky and juicy, with good intensity to the plum and mocha flavors. Finishes broad, with a fine dusting of tannins and a hint of chocolate.

This juicy red features a core of dark plum and blackberry fruit backed by a coffee hint. Just enough grip keeps this honest. Drink now.

This South African wine possesses deep blackberry tones complemented by a touch of vanilla and a smoky backbone. It finishes a bit earthy with a fine black cherry aftertaste.

The 2010 Pinotage is blended with 13% Syrah and 2% Viognier and is raised in a mixture of new and used oak. It has a fragrant, earthy bouquet with mulberry, briary and wild hedgerow scents, more natural than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannins cloaked by redcurrant, strawberry and cherry fruit. It is sensual and harmonious with a caressing finish that is quite simply, delicious. This is a very fine Pinotage from winemakers Francois Bezuidenhout and Tyrrel Myburgh. Drink now–2015.
