Meaty, spicy, and rather nicely expressing Serralunga terroir, on the nose. This is a bit spicy on entry with a slight black medicinal tone, a light touch of wood and wild strawberry fruit in a lean, fresh, crisply styled wine. The tannins are abundant though ripe, showing a hint of dryness, and the acidity pronounced if well balanced, all contributing to the lovely clarity on the palate. There’s nice length to the earthy finish with an incipient hint of porcini. You could teach a class with this. Classic Serralunga Barolo 90pts

12 months in small wood, all used From a plot below Margheria and Marenca that is only used for Langhe Nebbiolo. Intense cherry in alcohol on the nose with wildflower tones, a hint of pink peppercorn, some pencil eraser and touches of beef and camphor. Round in the mouth and sweet in a good way, this is full of soft polished tannins and dried cherry fruits with a sandalwood top note. It’s balanced, velvety and clear with pure wild cherry fruit and that light sandalwood tone consistent from start to finish 87pts

Alcoholic on the nose and intensely brairy with notes of strawberry tops and minerals breaking through the woodsy character. Super ripe tannins in the mouth supporting very ripe fruit with integrated acids. This has a somewhat anonymous feel to it, lots of weight in the mouth, blocky, indistinct fruit. The finish is long, but quite hot and a bit coarse. A tough wine. 83pts

Very briary and medicinal on the nose with a core or ripe fruit sweetness framed by notes of green anise seed, menthol, and pepper. Very finely integrated mouthfeel with faceted ripe fruit and nicely layered tannins. The fruit is very precise, and almost even a bit severe with notes of macerated flowers accenting the core of burnished cherry. Very tight and short on the finish with some woody tannins quickly clamping it down. This shows solid potential. 88pts

Very asphalt driven aromatics have spicy undertones and notes of berry pie filling, leather and game. In the mouth this is clean and lean with rich cherry fruit accented by notes of spice and licorice. It’s lighter styled than the 2006 Margheria but with more depth to the gamy, licorice tinged core of fruit. The finish is cur short as the big tannins assert themselves, 91pts

Very floral n the nose with sweet tones, a touch of leather, some dusty earth and a medical core. Starts off really focused with great cleansing acids buffered by round, almost lush fruit. It quickly turns tannic and lean across the midpalate with a strong medicinal tone kicking in followed by an earthy, seedy quality and lean crisp cranberry and lingonberry fruits. The finish is moderately long and a bit earthy with real power and solid depth. 92pts

Toasty oak greets the nose along with hints of melon rind and roasting coffee bean. Not much fruit though. Very elegant on entry with lots of bitter fruit up front followed by lots of wood tannin and torrefaction notes. This is linear in the mouth and low amplitude with lots of drying wood tannins tamping down the heavily extracted mid-palate. The long finish reveals some clear, precise liquory strawberry fruit tones but it’s really caged in the wood at this point. 86pts

Acrid tar on the nose, but it moves quickly past that into quite a classic barolo taste. I'm not the hugest Barolo fan, but despite the style found this quite approachable. Strong tannins, even still. Long finish on the dry tannins.

The 2007 Barolo Margheria is superb. The vintage has smoothed out some of the more angular contours this wine tends to show when young, while not overpowering what remains a structured expression of Nebbiolo. The 2007 Barolo Marenca boasts tons of richness and depth. Beautiful, well-delineated aromatics are woven throughout a core of expressive, racy fruit, adding lift and freshness. The Marenca is usually the biggest of the Baroli here, and the 2007 is d... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2007 Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca 750ml

The 2007 Barolo Vigna Margheria, typically a powerhouse, shows an unusual level of finesse and elegance without losing its essential intensity and richness. The tannins, which can sometimes be a touch dry here, are very nicely balanced. This, too, of... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Vigna Rionda has an elegant and complex nose, layering aromas of wild berries and sweet tobacco with balsamic notes. It is rich and opulent on the palate, harmonious and extraordinarily persistent.
